The 2023 season is now well underway and the green is playing very well. Our thanks to Peter and Aldo for all the hard work they put in to looking after our green. We owe them a considerable debt.
The Three Counties and Farnham leagues started in May. We also played in the Midhurst Cup in May, but sadly got knocked out in the first round by Crablands B.C. from Selsey. We are hoping for a better result when we start the defence of the Hunter Cup shortly.
The ever-popular Friday league kicked off on May 19th and runs through to August 11th. Thanks to Tony Derrick for running the league again this year.
If you have entered club competitions, please do your best to play your matches according to the timetable as this is a help to everyone, not least our club Captain, Martin Gerhold.
Similarly, please make sure that you support the Friendly matches, organised once again by Noel Thompson, Fixtures Secretary. If you would like to be Captain of the Day, there are still slots available.
The Rowledge Village Fayre was held on the Spring Bank Holiday and we were blessed with perfect weather. Our usual activities of cream teas, books, hoopla, plants, bric-a-brac, wood art and a couple of games yielded just over £2000 for club funds. Another brilliant effort thanks to all those who gave of their time on the day. A particular thank you to Aldo for his wood art stall, which represents many hours of hard work. It was also encouraging to see a number of new faces amongst the various helpers. Afterwards twenty-four of us enjoyed a well- earned supper at the Hare and Hounds.
Dates for your diary are : –
1)Triples Day, Sunday June 11th, 2.00pm.
2)Club BBQ, 7.00pm.Saturday June 17th at Cherryfields by kind permission of our President, Ian Carter.
This year it is a BYO (bring your own) event, which means all food, drink and utensils. The bbq will be available for cooking as usual. Being a BYO format means that there is no charge!
3)Friendly v. Marine Gardens B.C., Sunday August 13th.
This is an all-day event with a provisional cost of £50/head to include transport and a meal on the return journey. We need eighteen players and as many supporters as possible. We haven’t, for various reasons, been to Worthing in the last few years. It is a very enjoyable day out so, if you haven’t been before, how about it?
Details of these events are on the Social Events notice board in the pavilion, where you can sign up.
4)Finals Weekend, August 19th and 20th.
In the meantime, enjoy your bowling at whatever level you play.
Finally, just to remind you, I will be standing down as Chairman at the AGM in November. I will have done two three-year stints as chairman, as well as having been treasurer, club captain and Farnham league captain. It is time for a change to bring in new ideas. Of course, it doesn’t have to be a new chairman. Is it not time that we had a lady chair? Food for thought!
Robert.
